Why do we need to see proof?

These checks are a legal requirement and unless you can provide enough evidence of your identity we are not allowed to open an account for you. Remember… it is for your own protection.

What proof do we need to see?

Postal Applications

We need to see three separate original documents, one to prove where you live and two to prove who you are.

Face to Face Applications

We need to see two separate original documents, one to prove where you live and one to prove who you are.

 

The same document cannot be used as proof for both identity and address. If you bring them into a branch, we will copy them and return the originals to you immediately.

A. To prove WHO you are…

UK or EU Passport – current and signed

Passport – non UK or EU: with at least 6 months remaining together with a current visa which should be indefinite or long stay

Old style FULL driving – provisional is not acceptable

Current UK or EEA photo card driving licence (full or provisional) including the paper counterpart

Current shotgun or firearms certificate

Current benefits book or original notification letter that confirms your right to benefits or State Pension

Current EEA Member State Identity Card

Current residence permit (issued by the Home Office to EU Nationals)

B. To prove WHERE you LIVE…

Old style FULL driving licence (if less than 10years old)

Current UK or EEA photo card driving licence ( full or provisional) if less than 10 years old, including the paper counterpart

Bank or mortgage statement (for the current month)

Current Council Tax Bill

Inland Revenue Correspondence (must show the name and current address of the prospective member)

Current Local Authority rent card or tenancy agreement

Recent utility bill: Telephone – cable or BT (or other landline) NOT mobile

Current benefits book or original notification letter that confirms your right to benefits or State Pension.

Your place of work

If you do not live in Wakefield district area, you need to prove that you work within the Wakefield area to be eligible to join.

Application by post

Applications can be accepted by post, but we may need to do additional ID checks and you may be required to send additional documentation.

Any documents you send will be returned to you.
